# Engini Developer Platform

> Build integrations and AI agents on Engini - REST API, Python & TypeScript SDKs, and a machine-first CLI.

Engini lets you execute integration tools across hundreds of business applications through one API - and it is built agent-first: every surface (API, SDK, CLI) is designed to be operated by AI agents as well as humans.

## One platform, three ways to call it

Everything runs through the same REST API (`https://api.engini.io/v1`) with the same API key. The SDKs and the CLI are convenience layers over it - **nothing is exclusive to one surface**, so pick by how you're working, not by feature:

| You are... | Use | Because |
| - | - | - |
| Writing **Python or TypeScript code** - a backend, a script, an AI agent | **SDK** (`pip install engini` / `npm install @engini/sdk`) | Typed methods and errors, pagination handled, OAuth helpers, LLM tool-schema providers |
| In a **terminal**, a **shell script**, **CI/CD**, or an agent that runs commands | **CLI** (`npm install -g @engini/cli`) | One-liners, JSON output when piped, stable exit codes, guided `engini connect` |
| In **any other language**, or you want zero dependencies | **REST API** directly | Plain HTTPS + `x-api-key` header; the [API Reference](/developers/api-reference) documents every endpoint |

Mixing is normal: connect an app once with the CLI, then call its tools from the Python SDK - they share the same account state.

## Building an AI agent?

Start at [For AI Agents](/developers/ai-agents) - it covers docs discovery (llms.txt, MCP), authentication, the recommended tool-execution loop, and wiring Engini tools into OpenAI or Anthropic tool-calling.
